Ryan Van Cleave was a successful English professor with a dream job and was soon to be tenured; however, he nearly abandoned everything in his life. Van Cleave started spending less time with his family, and as a substitute he would feed a new found reality that provided an escape from the mundane. Consequently, Van Cleave’s career suffered while he neglected his responsibilities, trading them for his next fix. His behavior became erratic, and he withdrew from his family and friends.
